The illustrations of historical photos in textbooks play a unique role in vividly feeling the content of the text and promoting the cultivation of the consciousness of historical evidence.This research topic is conducive to promoting middle school teachers’ in-depth study and research of the new high school history textbooks,improving the setting of textbook illustrations,and the optimization of teaching methods and learning methods of photo illustrations in the new textbooks.On the basis of combing the relevant research results and the concept of historical photo illustration,this paper analyzes the nature and characteristics,distribution and type,function and setting mode of historical photo illustration in "Outline of Chinese and Foreign History".Through the investigation of students and the interview of teachers,this paper puts forward the problems and suggestions on the setting of historical photos in textbooks,and shows the methods of using historical photos illustrations in teaching through specific cases.Through the research,the following three aspects of understanding are obtained.The first is the historical photo illustrations in the Outline of Chinese and Foreign History,which are widely distributed in the first and second volumes of textbooks.There are mainly three types: photos of historical figures,photos of historical scenes and photos of historical relics.They are a collection of image resources,photographic works and cultural relics,highlighting the authenticity,artistry and evidential features of photos,and play an important role in visually displaying the image of history,stimulating students’ interest in learning and verifying the content of the text.The second is the setting of historical photos in the textbook,which are arranged in the introduction of the text,the text and related columns,as well as the exercises after class.They play a role in eliciting the learning content,narrating and verifying the content of the text,stimulating the interest in learning and activating thinking.According to the teachers and students who have used them,the selection and arrangement of most historical photos are quite appropriate,while some photos have problems such as lack of clarity,lack of text description,and unreasonable selection and arrangement.Third,historical photos can be used as teaching objects to guide students to explore the value of historical materials,the background of their formation and the connection with the text content.It can also be used as a teaching tool to elicit learning content,create a teaching situation and stimulate students’ interest in learning.
