Research On Chinese Curriculum In Shanghai International Primary And Secondary Schools

Abstract/Summary:
For a long time,researches on Chinese teaching have paid more attention to the teaching of Chinese as a second language or a foreign language carried out overseas and for international college students in China,and little attention has been paid to the development of Chinese curriculum for primary and secondary students in domestic international schools which is in the target language environment.At the same time,related researches focus on teaching issues,and there is a lack of research on the curriculum.Students in international schools have a complex structure with large differences in language and cultural backgrounds.Facing these students with diverse learning needs and different levels of Chinese,how to design and develop Chinese curriculum is a big problem.Through questionnaires and interviews,this paper systematically investigated the developing background and current situation of Chinese curriculum of six well-known international schools in Shanghai,as well as the Chinese curriculum’s philosophy and goals,framework,implementation strategy,evaluation,curriculum resources and environmental construction and other related issues.By analyzing the commonalities and differences in the Chinese curriculum settings of the six international schools,this paper summarizes the following curriculum setting ideas: Considering various teaching needs,backward design curriculum goals;Implement differentiated teaching,enrich practical courses,and organize course content in units of themes and literary styles;Implement a learner-centered curriculum,and focus on inquiry and innovation in teaching;Curriculum evaluation criteria are open and transparent,individualized,diversified in methods and value the presentation and expression of works;To ensure the smooth running of the course through the excellent teaching team,course resources and environment construction.These ideas has provided a lot of experience for the setting of Chinese curriculum in other international schools.
