A Report On E-C Simulated Simultaneous Interpreting Of The Literature Lecture Two Types Of Cosmopolitanism(Excerpts)

Under the context of COVID-19 epidemic,the demand for transnational cultural exchanges continues unabated.Online meetings have gradually flourished in recent years.China and Russia are friendly neighbors with close ties between scholars.Galin Tihanov,George Steiner Professor of Comparative Literature at Queen Mary University of London was invited to give a lecture in Frontiers of Russian Literature Theory Lecture Series,organized by the Institute of World Literature,School of foreign languages,Peking University.This practice report is excerpted from Tihanov’s first lecture,entitled Two Types of Cosmopolitanism,which makes up the source language of the simultaneous English-Chinese interpretation.According to Gile’s Effort Model,the Efforts of simultaneous interpretation are divided into comprehension,production and short-term memory.The interpreter used anticipation and paraphrasing to solve the high density of speech in comprehension.Repairing,morphosyntactic transformation and parroting were used to deal with the incomprehensible words in production.In dealing with saturation in memory,the strategy of compression and omission were employed.Finally,the interpreter summarized the experience of literature interpreting based on the evaluation sheets.
