In the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,teaching materials are an important support for language teaching activities,an important medium connecting teaching and learning,and play an important role in Chinese language learning.High-quality teaching materials can facilitate the effective implementation of teaching and learning and,to a certain extent,the spread of Chinese culture.Based on the author’s teaching practice as a teacher of Chinese as a foreign language in Silhouette Chinese and Lingo Ace,this study compares the primary native Chinese textbook Joyful Partner 1A published in Singapore with the primary general Chinese textbook HSK Standard Course 1 published in China,and uses the elements of Mr.Zhao Jinming’s evaluation form for Chinese teaching materials for foreigners to compare the teachers and students using these two textbooks.Teachers and students using these two textbooks were surveyed and interviewed to collect and compare their opinions and suggestions.The interviews and comparative analyses show that the two textbooks have their own advantages.The author believes that there are advantages and disadvantages to both textbooks.The paper provides a detailed comparison and analysis of the two textbooks from the macro perspective of the overall writing style and the writing style of individual lessons,as well as from the micro perspective of text writing,phonetic writing,Chinese character writing,vocabulary writing and grammar writing.On the basis of this analysis,the textbooks and the teachers’ classroom teaching are improved by optimising the overall style of the textbooks and refining the style of individual lessons,focusing more on the development of communicative competence and taking into account the learning characteristics and habits of Singaporean students.The text is presented in a standardised manner,and the content is applicable and rich in topics;the phonetics is arranged in a systematic,scientific and relevant manner;the vocabulary is written in a reasonable quantity and difficulty;the grammatical structure is enhanced in an intuitive and logical manner;and the teaching of Chinese characters is made more interesting and important.
