Translation Compensation Methods Under Skopos Theory In Military Text

With China’s level of national defense construction having risen,the level of the navy has already dramatically improved.However,learning from the experience and achievements of the US Marine Corps in safety management is of great significance in improving the overall level of the Marine Corps.Because of the considerable distinctions regarding the texts and cultural backgrounds between English and Chinese,there are apparent limits to the translatability from English to Chinese,consequently,leading to the inevitable translation loss.Military texts,as a branch of sci-tech texts,consistently attach great importance to the accurate expression of information.In order to compensate for the loss of information due to translation loss,the practice report,based on the study of translation compensation,chooses the parts translated by me in excerpts(Chapter 4 of Volume 3-Chapter 2 of Volume 5)of Marine Corps Safety Management System as an example from the perspective of Skopos theory,and from lexical items and discourses aspects then is intended to further explore and summarize 6 translation compensation methods of military texts translation into Chinese,including time adverbs compensation,words with plural meaning compensation,notations within text compensation,conjunctions compensation,shift of perspective,combination and division compensation.Moreover,the report is aimed at providing references and supplements to the translation compensation of military texts,hoping to offer language translation support for the development and construction of China’s Marine Corps.
