A Report On The C-E Translation Of "Nanning Museum Exhibit Introduction"(An Except)

In recent years,museum TV shows encourage more and more people to pay attention to culture and museums.At the same time,the increase in international cultural exchanges between museums also puts forward higher requirements for the translation of museum exhibit texts.Nanning Museum is a local and comprehensive museum of education,exhibition,collection and research of Nanning historical and cultural heritage.The author chooses the exhibit texts(except)of Nanning Museum as the object to carry out research on museum translation.The permanent exhibition and temporary special exhibition display cultural treasures to the public.The translation materials include parts of the texts of the ancient and modern Nanning history exhibition,the red pottery art exhibition,and the beautiful Nanning photography exhibition.The translator hopes that such translation can provide reference to translation lovers of museum texts,show the local culture of Guangxi to the English audience,discuss the characteristics of the museum text and how the translator deals with the difficulties in translation.At the same time,the translator hopes to provide a little academic reference for translators or translation lovers of the same type of translation task through the report.Based on the theory of domestication and foreignization,this report describes and analyzes the specific content and application in translation.Foreignization is to guide the reader to get close to the author;domestication is to guide the author to approach the reader.In this report,the author analyzes the specific translation strategies adopted in the translation practice from lexical,syntactic and textual levels to meet the translation requirements and purposes.At the lexical level,translation of exhibit names and culturally-loaded expressions tend to be domesticated or foreignized by literal translation,transliteration annotation and conversion.At the syntactic level,translation strategies of literary long sentences and Chinese ancient poems are found in a balance between domestication and foreignization.At the textual level,information processing in practicability of translation and multimedia introduction considers the efficiency and experience of tourists according to the guidance of domestication and foreignization.In the meantime,the author summarizes the shortcomings and difficulties in the translation of museum texts,and puts forward personal opinions for other translators’ criticism and reference.The Chinese-English translation of museum exhibit introduction is difficult and challenging.In this report,the translator finds that to carry out the translation task,it needs a large amount of professional background information in the field of preparation,but also requires that the translators’ personal comprehensive ability can meet the higher requirements in translating museum texts.
