The E-C Translation Report Of Sport Event Tourism:Sustainability Of Trail Racing Events In Us National Parks Under The Guidance Of Cohesion Theory

Sport event ecotourism realizes the sport event tourism potential of the destination based on the natural beauty.It drives the development of the local sport tourism economy and promotes the concept of ecological conservation,strengthening the value of the event.The report is based on the English-Chinese translation practice of an academic paper Sport Event Tourism: sustainability of trail racing events in US National Parks(Brianna,2021).The translation task,with a total of 13,261 words,is authorized by the author,and the analysis is based on the excerpt of the translated text(approximately 10,000 characters).Using Sustainability Indicators of WTO(2004)as a framework,the source text analyzes the sustainability practices of Grand Trailfest held in American national parks.In the study of the relationship of sport event and ecotourism,it bridges the gap of existing literature concerning sport event ecotourism and better identifies sport event ecotourism practices.Through the process of translation practice,the translator analyzed the characteristics of the source text and managed to solve problems arising under the guidance of cohesion theory.The translation task requires accurate conveyance of all the information and logic in the source text,of which the professional terminology and background also need careful verification.The nature of the source text,to some extent,determines its characteristics such as professional content and terminology,strong logic through the whole text and concise style,which pose challenges to the translation.For example,due to the differences of English and Chinese culture,there are different ways to employ cohesive devices to strengthen the cohesion and coherence of the text.To deal with the difficulties posed in the translation practice,the cohesion theory has been adopted as a guidance to achieve cohesion in the translated text so that it has the same features as the source text.The findings of the report imply the significance of the cohesion theory in terms of translation.With the analysis and summary of similarity and difference of cohesive devices adopted in Chinese and English by scholars,the translator can understand the logic of the source text to a deeper extent,which enhances the readability of the translated text and makes it more coherent and smoother;the findings and suggestions may be of help to other translators as well.
