A Report On Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Of The Documentary Yuelu Academy

Functionalist Skopos Theory points out that translation is an activity with a specific purpose,which breaks through the limitation of traditional equivalence theory.And interpreters should choose corresponding strategies according to the purpose.The press conference after the two sessions is a kind of political and diplomatic activity.Due to its specialty,the interpretation of the press conference should always pay attention to the real intention and purpose of the speaker,so as not to cause major mistakes and affect the international image of China.Interpreters should select interpretation methods according to the purpose and function of the source language.Therefore,Skopos Theory is of great significance to guide the practice of political interpretation.This simulated interpretation practice report is based on Premier Li’s press conference in2021.This kind of interpretation requires the interpreter to have sufficient knowledge reserve,excellent bilingual ability,and the keen awareness of cross-cultural differences and differences between different ideologies.Due to insufficient bilingual ability and encyclopedic knowledge,the interpreter has made some mistakes in the practice.In this report,the author depicts the whole practice with details and then makes a conclusion.The case analysis is conducted from the aspects of expressions,sentence and discourse with some typical examples.The author analyzes reasons why she made mistakes and explores appropriate interpretation methods under the guidance of Skopos Theory so as to achieve the rules of purpose,coherence and fidelity.In the process of interpretation assessment,the author reflects on her own shortages and puts forward corresponding suggestions for the study of interpreting practice.By analyzing the recording and corresponding corpus,this report discusses the application of the three rules of Skopos Theory in political interpretation practice,summarizes some typical difficulties in this task.Corresponding interpretation strategies and suggestions are explored in an effort to further improve the interpreter’s ability and are expected to have the referential value in political interpreting practices.
