This is a translation report of the introduction and the first chapter of A Passion for Ignorance: What We Choose Not to Know and Why written by Renata Salecl. The source text mainly introduces the manifestation and application of ignorance in various fields of society,as well as its positive role in combating anxiety and involution. This report aims to dispel the confusion of readers who are experiencing knowledge anxiety and guide them to understand the concept of ignorance from different perspectives. The difficulties in this report are the translation of subtitles with wh-words,the deviation of ignorance and its synonyms, and information equivalence at lexical and syntactic levels.Under the guidance of Functional equivalence theory, the translator adopts omission, contextualization, division, reconstruction and conversion to solve the difficulties, hoping to provide certain reference for relevant readers.
