In the past, the underclass was forced to remain silent due to the lack of the mechanism of interest expression. But now,the Internet with fast information dissemination and convenient communication provides a platform to express interests of the underclass and becomes a new weapon for their protection and fight for their rights.Based on CSS 2019 data, this paper takes the political process theory as the theoretical framework and uses the structural equation model to analyze the influence and mechanism of the Internet on the non-institutional political participation of the underclass.Firstly, the underclass seldom participates in non-institutional political activities.Secondly, the Internet use has a positive impact on the non-institutional political participation of the underclass.Thirdly, political opportunity and rights protection organizations have significant mediating effects on the relationship between Internet use and non-institutional political participation of the underclass.Fourthly, with the increasing use of the Internet, the underclass has more political opportunities.Nevertheless,it inhibits their cognitive liberation, including their sense of political efficacy and injustice, and thus reduces the possibility of their non-institutional political participation. Finally, the Internet motives the underclass to participate in rights protection organizations, promotes their cognitive liberation, and then increases the possibility of their non-institutional political participation. There are some innovations in research methods and theories. In terms of research methods, quantitative research is adopted, and the hypothesis is verified by structural equation model. From the perspective of theory, political factors are introduced to interpret the influence mechanism of the Internet on the non-institutional political participation of the underclass.
