In year 1983,the Ministry of Education Malaysia allowed Chinese primary schools across the country to start Chinese Phonetic Alphabet and simplified Chinese characters teaching.According to secondary school teachers’ evaluations, they found there is an increasing number of students unable to master Chinese Phonetic Alphabet and it has severely affected their Chinese writing, reading and comprehension learning as well. The most fundamental reason is that the Chinese education in Malaysia has marginalized the teaching of Chinese Phonetic Alphabet.Through interviews, questionnaires and the analysis of the contents of Chinese textbooks in Chinese primary schools,it is found that most Chinese primary school teachers have not mastered the basic rules of the "Hanyu Pinyin Plan".In addition,Chinese teachers suffer from heavy class work and a shortage of Chinese Phonetic Alphabet teaching hours, which seriously caused students to be unable to master accurately in the syllable spelling methods and Chinese Phonetic Alphabet writing.Generally, the students only know the specific polyphonic polysemous characters that appear in the textbook, and they don’t understand the basics of initials, vowels, and four-tone symbols. As a result, the willingness of students from Chinese primary school to learn Chinese was gradually decreased. From the situation and existing problems of Chinese Phonetic Alphabet teaching in Chinese primary schools above,it is recommended that the Ministry of Education Malaysia refer to China’s teaching basis and teaching materials,re-arrange the content of Chinese Phonetic Alphabet teaching in Chinese primary school, and provide teachers with the pre-employment and post-employment corresponding training courses to improve through multiple ways, thereby to increase the practicalness. In addition, parents must also cooperate to provide more environmental and practical conditions for the use of Chinese Phonetic Alphabet.Since the "Curriculum Standards" currently in use states that "Chinese Phonetic Alphabet is the main point of teaching in the Standard One of primary school",the Chinese Language and Culture Department of the Ministry of Education Malaysia must focus on the importance of Chinese Phonetic Alphabet teaching and implement it in teacher training and the teaching objectives in “Curriculum Standards”,also, lesson hour and compilation of teaching materials. In a nutshell,to set a long-term goal for Chinese Phonetic Alphabet is required,in order to make the Chinese education of Malaysia conform to China and international standards,so that the Chinese education of Malaysia can continue to develop and achieve the desire for perfection. |
