In recent years,as a new mode of education to cultivate students’ innovation, inquisitiveness and creativity, maker education has received widespread attention from the education sector. However, due to various factors, some schools only use simple imitation in the teaching process to complete the creative education works, and the teaching method is formal, neglecting the cultivation of innovation, inquiry and creativity advocated by the essential connotation of creative education, which makes it difficult to promote the achievement of teaching objectives. This research examines the challenges faced by current secondary school maker education through literature analysis, questionnaire survey and interview method.Through literature research on the teaching design model of creative education and common practice models of design thinking, and in the light of the practice of creative education teaching in the author’s internship school, the design thinking theory is used as a guide to construct a design-based teaching design model for creative education and form a specific teaching design plan on this basis. The study will analyse the effects of this model on the development of innovation, inquiry and creativity of secondary school students. The analysis of the research data shows that the design of the teaching activities is oriented towards design thinking theory,student-centred,and the creation of teaching contexts by teachers and group communication and discussion is conducive to students’ identification of topics and clear learning problems and tasks. The interdisciplinary collaborative learning and diversified assessment enable students to fully examine the design of their own work and improve the design and production quality of their work through iterative design cycles.Design thinking-based teaching and learning designs for creative education have limited impact on the technicality of students’ work, and secondary school creative education programmes have fewer classroom hours. How to improve the innovation, inquiry and creativity of secondary school students by integrating the learning of the technicality of their work with less class time will be a subsequent concern.
