| Objective: Taekwondo athletes perform different types of warm-up exercises before formal training and competition to improve their subsequent joint flexibility and athletic performance. In recent years, foam rolling has been used in the warm-up part of sports training or competition by athletes because it can increase joint motion and reduce muscle stiffness, but the optimal duration of foam rolling has not been determined. Therefore,in the current study,24 male college taekwondo athletes from North University of China were respectively given different duration of foam rolling and provides practical evidence for foam rolling to be used in warm-up activities by measuring the acute effects of different duration of foam rolling on the lateral kick ability(number of front and back transverse kicks and total force of front and back transverse kicks in 10s),hip flexibility(range of flexion, extension, adduction and abduction)and agility(illinois and hexagon jump)of taekwondo athletes. Methods: In the current study,24 male college taekwondo athletes from North University of China were selected and randomly divided into foam rolling group A1(rolling time: 30s*1),foam rolling group A2(rolling time: 30s*2,group interval 30s),and foam rolling group A3(rolling time: 30s*3,group interval 30s).Subjects in the three groups received different duration(30s*1,30s* 2,30s*3)foam rolling. After the foam rolling, the range of hip flexion, extension, adduction and abduction were measured by joint angle measuring stick to assess hip flexibility;the subject’s transverse kick ability was evaluated by using the number and the total force of front and back transverse kicks in 10s;the subject’s agility was evaluated by the Illinois test and the hexagon jump.Results:(1)Compared with before intervention,30 s foam rolling of each muscle group had no significant effect on the range of hip flexion, extension, adduction and abductor motion in male college taekwondo athletes(P>0.05 respectively);the 60s and 90s foam rolling of each muscle significantly increased the range of hip flexion, extension, adduction and abduction in male college taekwondo athletes(P<0.05,P<0.01);after foam rolling intervention, the range of hip flexion and abductive in A2 and A3 groups were significantly increased compared with A1 group(P<0.05,P<0.01);Only the A3 group had more higher range of hip extension than the A1 group(P<0.01);compared with A1 group, there were no significant changes in the range of hip extension and adductor in A2 group, and no significant changes in the range of hip adductor in A3 group(P<0.05 respectively);Compared with A2 group, the range of hip flexion and abductive significantly increased in A3 group(P<0.05 respectively),there were no significant changes in the range of hip extension and adductor(P>0.05 respectively).(2)Compared with before foam rolling intervention, the 30 s and 90 s foam rolling of each muscle had no significant effect on the number of horizontal kicks in 10 s in the male college taekwondo athletes(P>0.05 respectively);the 60 s foam rolling of each muscle significantly increased the number and total force of front and back transverse kicks in 10 s in the male college taekwondo athletes(P<0.01 respectively)and the 30 s foam rolling of each muscle can significantly increase the total force of front transverse kicks in 10 s in taekwondo athletes, but the 90 s foam rolling of each muscle has no significant effect on the total force of front transverse kicks in 10s(P>0.05);after foam rolling intervention, except total force of front transverse kicks in 10 s in group A1 was significantly lower than that in group A2(P<0.05),there were no significant differences in other indexes among the three groups(P>0.05 respectively).(3)Compared with before foam rolling intervention, the 30 s foam rolling of each muscle had no significant effect on the number and the total force of back transverse kicks in 10 s in male college students Taekwondo athletes(P>0.05 respectively);the 60 s foam rolling of each muscle significantly increase the number and the total force of back transverse kicks in 10 s in male college students Taekwondo athletes(P<0.01 respectively);however, the 90 s foam rolling of each muscle group significantly increase the number of back transverse kicks in 10 s,but had no significant effect on the total force of back transverse kicks in 10s in male college students taekwondo athletes(P>0.05);after the foam rolling intervention, the total force of back transverse kicks in 10s in groups A1 and A3 decreased significantly compared with group A2(P<0.05 respectively),there were no significant differences in other indexes among the groups(P>0.05 respectively).(4)Compared with before foam rolling intervention, the 60 s and 90 s foam rolling of each muscle can significantly reduce the time of illinois and hexagon jumps in male college taekwondo athletes, and the 30 s foam rolling of each muscle significantly decreased the time of hexagon jumps, but had no significant effect on the the time of illinois test(P>0.05);after foam rolling intervention, there was no significant difference of the time of illinois and hexagon jumps in male college taekwondo athletes among the three groups(P>0.05respectively).Conclusions:(1)Different duration of foam rolling can significantly increase hip joint motion of male college students taekwondo athletes, and the hip joint motion of taekwondo athletes shows an increasing trend with the extension of single muscle foam rolling time, suggesting that the 90 s foam rolling of each muscle is better in improving hip joint flexibility of taekwondo athletes.(2)the 60 s foam rolling of each muscle can increase the horizontal kick ability of male college students, but the 30 s and 90 s foam rolling of each muscle has little effect on the horizontal kick ability of taekwondo athletes.(3)the 30 s,60s and 90 s foam rolling of each muscle can improve the sensitivity of male college students taekwondo athletes to a certain extent, but the 90 s foam rolling of each muscle has the better improvement effect.(4)When the foam rolling is used for warm-up of body, the 60 s foam rolling of each muscle will be better, and the hip flexibility, lateral kick ability and agility of male college students taekwondo athletes will be better improved. |
