Currently,improving the scientific literacy of citizens’ is an important task in China.The needs of society also require students to develop core competencies for those who perform well in various aspects.The 2022 Compulsory Education Science Curriculum Standards have made specific provisions on the core competencies that science courses should cultivate for students.As a person who guides students in science learning,the development of primary school science teachers’ core literacy is related to the quality of of teaching and student development.In this context,it is particularly important to pay attention to the current situation of the professional development of primary school science teachers.This article forms a professional development framework for primary school science teachers’ core literacy based on Wang Houxiong’s structural division of teachers’ core literacy and the cultivation goals of science curriculum core literacy.According to this framework,a questionnaire was prepared to investigate the professional development of 44 science teachers in ten primary schools in H District,Q City.At the same time,identify the problems and analyze the causes,combined with interview data,and then propose strategies for teacher professional development.The study found that science teachers in primary schools,currently,have a relatively high development space.Although the overall educational level of teachers is relatively high,their educational background,teaching experience,and part-time job performance are average,and there are problems such as a large proportion of part-time jobs,and professional mismatch;in addition,primary school science teachers have issues such as lack of subject knowledge,inadequate scientific thinking ability,insufficient exploration and practical ability,failure to establish a correct scientific attitude and sense of responsibility,and weak awareness of active learning in terms of their professional qualities,educational and teaching qualities,learning and reflective qualities.According to the theory of teacher professional development and the theory of incentives,this study found that the current problems are related to factors such as “The quality of science teacher team needs to be improved,insufficient support from schools and insufficient internal motivation for the professional development of primary school science teachers.” On this basis,this study proposes to,strive to improve the professional quality of science teachers by improving the quality of science teachers;the school has increased its support to promote the improvement of primary school science teachers’ teaching abilities,including scientific awareness,teaching ability,scientific exploration,and teaching research,through organizational activities of scientific practice,organizing research on scientific curriculum standards,conducting special training,and holding special lectures,etc;enhancing the awareness of active learning can stimulate teachers’ internal drive for professional development.
