| Students majoring in tourism management are the main source of skilled talents in the tourism service industry.Tourism professionals possess theoretical knowledge and service skills in tourism services, and are the driving force for ensuring the healthy development of the tourism industry.Secondary vocational education is an important component of vocational education and plays a crucial role in cultivating skilled talents. At present, the tourism graduates trained in vocational schools have become an important source of human resources for domestic tourism related enterprises. However, research on tourism management majors in recent years shows that regardless of whether they are undergraduate, vocational,or vocational students, their intention to find employment in the industry is not high. Most students choose to work in non tourism industries after completing the prescribed period of internship. This leads to a very prominent contradiction between the cultivation of tourism talents in universities and the demand of the tourism market. There are many factors that restrict the employment of tourism industry students, such as lower salaries and strong physical labor, but the fundamental reason is that students’ professional identity is not high. This study selected tourism management students from three different schools,Guangdong Literary & Art Vocational College,Guangzhou Vocational School of Tourism and Business, and Guangdong Vocational School of Maritime Engineering as sampling boxes.Research data was collected through questionnaires. After testing the reliability and validity of the data, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, difference analysis, and structural equation model validation were used to analyze the data, and the conclusions are as follows:(1)The professional identity and employment intention of vocational school students majoring in tourism management are at a moderate level and need to be improved;(2)There are significant differences in the professional identity and employment intention of vocational school students majoring in tourism management in terms of school type, grade, family residence, annual family income, major selection methods, whether they serve as class or school cadres, and whether they have worked or part-time in the tourism industry.(3)Professional learning and professional cognition have a significant positive impact on the employment intention of vocational school students majoring in tourism management.(4)The construction of professional disciplines, professional employment, professional social recognition, and the influence of others have a significant impact on the professional identity of vocational school students majoring in tourism management.Based on this result, this study proposes suggestions to enhance the professional identity level of vocational school students majoring in tourism management from the perspectives of tourism universities, tourism enterprises, and important others,in order to enhance their employment intentions within the industry. |
