The promulgation of the Compulsory Education Curriculum Plan and Curriculum Standards(2022 Edition)indicates the direction of the new round of basic education curriculum reform.The key point of the revision is to make the core accomplishment come down to earth,which is the concrete embodiment of carrying out the fundamental task of setting up people and highlighting the national education policy.The new geography curriculum standard more manifests student’s master’s status,constructs the geography study content system which the geography activity and the geography knowledge unify.It can be a good supplement to geography curriculum resources,help students to establish links between current events and geography knowledge,enhance students’ analytical and problem-solving skills,and gradually cultivate the core quality of geography.Based on the goal of educating students and promoting the core quality of geography,this study examines the hot spots of current affairs in the geography teaching of junior high school.First of all,this paper uses the method of literature to understand the status quo of the research on the core quality of geography and current affairs at home and abroad.Secondly,by using the method of questionnaire,this article analyses the current hot spots in geography teaching in junior middle school,and puts forward some relevant strategies.Thirdly,the use of classroom observation,recording and analysis of hot topics in junior high school geography classroom application effect,timely reflection on teaching,lay the foundation for the rest.Finally,the case analysis method is used to make the specific case design based on the current affairs materials of repairing the Yangtze River and protecting the Yellow River.The results show that:(1)It is feasible to apply the hot topics of current affairs to the geography teaching in junior middle schools.The application of current events can stimulate students’ interest in learning geography and enhance the interest in geography.At the same time,it also opens a channel for students to know the world,which is of great significance to promote the students’ core quality of geography.(2)The core quality of geography,the concept of education,the goal of education,and the geographical examination questions in the high school entrance examination mentioned in the curriculum standards for geography at the stage of compulsory education are closely related to the hot materials on current affairs.In recent years,there are more and more questions in the geography test about the background of current events,which shows the high degree of perseverance between geography and current events.(3)By analyzing the problems existing in the questionnaire survey,we have summarized the ways to select hot spots on current affairs and the principles of "new","close","accurate","wide" and "deep" followed in the process of collecting hot spots on current affairs,and sorted out the typical hot spots on current affairs in 2022 according to the requirements for cultivating core geographical qualities.Design specific teaching cases,sum up how to choose the hot spots of current affairs in the classroom,how to use the hot spots of current affairs to create teaching situations,how to use the hot spots of current affairs to analyze geography knowledge,how to use the hot spots of current affairs to enhance students’ ability to solve problems,so as to infiltrate the concept of human-land coordination,strengthen regional cognition,cultivate comprehensive thinking and enhance the practical ability of geography.
