Life education is the education of love,which teaches students to love themselves,society,nature and life.Elementary school is the beginning of basic education,and the lower elementary school is a critical period for the formation of a correct view of life,so it is significant to carry out life education at this stage for students’ healthy growth.Because picture books meet the cognitive developmental characteristics of elementary school students,it is of special value to carry out life education for elementary school students with the help of picture books as a carrier.Based on the literature at home and abroad,this study uses Tao Xingzhi’s life education,Chen Heqin’s "living education" and other educational theories as well as Maslow’s,Rogers’ humanism and Piaget’s cognitive development as the theoretical bases,and uses questionnaires,interviews,observations and action research to investigate the current situation of life education in an elementary school.The current situation of carrying out life education in the lower section was investigated,and four problems were found,including insufficient attention to life education,students’ lack of understanding of life,single way of implementing life education,and lack of life education in family education.In order to solve these problems,this study constructed an activity model for implementing life education in the lower elementary school with picture books as the carrier,and carried out eight life education activities with picture books in four dimensions:human and self,human and society,human and nature,and human and life.Based on the evaluation of the quantitative and qualitative analysis of life education activities,it was concluded that the implementation of life education in lower elementary schools with the help of picture books can help schools get out of the current dilemma of life education,and the model of implementing life education activities in lower elementary schools with the help of picture books is feasible,and life education activities in lower elementary schools with the help of picture books enriched students’ correct life perceptions and cultivated students’ positive life perceptions.The activities of life education at the lower elementary level using picture books as a carrier enrich students’ correct life cognition,cultivate students’ positive life emotion,and strengthen students’ positive life behavior.Finally,suggestions for using picture books as a vehicle to implement life education in lower elementary schools are proposed,aiming to make life education in lower elementary schools using picture books as a vehicle to be carried out effectively in more schools.
