Devotion to family and country refers to an individual’s sense of identity,belonging and responsibility to family,hometown and motherland,which not only involves the relationship between the individual and the collective,but also is the expression of national spirit and cultural identity.After thousands of years of development,the connotation of devotion to family and country has changed.In addition to geopolitical identity in the traditional sense,today’s devotion to family and country also includes emotional identification with local culture,historical heritage and natural environment.Nowadays,collisions arise between local and foreign cultures,traditional and modern cultures,and elementary school is an important period for people to receive cultural nurturing and comprehensive physical and mental development,so it is of immense theoretical and practical importance to cultivate devotion to family and country for elementary school students.Ancient poetry and prose are crucial mediums of traditional culture and spiritual civilization,so cultivating students’ devotion to family and country through teaching ancient poetry and prose can not only improve the efficiency and quality of ancient poetry and prose teaching,but also effectively promote students’ cognition and internalization of devotion to family and country.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part discusses the research background,theoretical foundation,research significance,research method and the current status of existing research,which clarifies the value of this study and lays the foundation for the later paper;the second part defines the connotation of devotion to family and country,explains the value,principles and goals of cultivating devotion to family and country in the teaching of ancient poetry and prose in the senior section of Chinese in primary school,clarifies the value of this study and provides the foundation for the subsequent research.In the third part,we counted the number of ancient poems in the four textbooks of the unified edition of elementary school language for grade 5and grade 6,and analyzed the content of the selected poems based on the five themes of idyllic landscape,aspiration to serve the country,homesickness,worry about the country and the people,and cultural heritage.Based on the above analysis,the fourth part analyzes the content of the selected texts based on five major themes: the country and the landscape,the desire to serve the country,homesickness,concern for the people,and cultural heritage.In the fourth part,we investigated the current situation of teaching ancient poetry and prose on the theme of devotion to family and country in four elementary school in Chengdu by means of questionnaires and interviews,and found several major problems in the teaching situation through analyzing the survey results: students and teachers have insufficient knowledge of devotion to family and country,students are not highly motivated to receive devotion to family and country education in ancient poetry and prose learning,teachers adopt a single way to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching ancient poetry and prose on devotion to family and country.The school and the class were negligent in organizing activities on the theme of devotion to family and country in ancient poetry and prose.After analyzing the problems,we found that the reasons for the above problems are as follows: teachers’ lack of attention of cultivating devotion to family and country in ancient poetry and prose teaching;teachers’ insufficient exploration of the content of devotion to family and country embedded in ancient poetry and prose;teachers’ lack of methods to cultivate devotion to family and country in ancient poetry and prose teaching;the limitations of sentiments itself.The fifth part is mainly the teaching strategies proposed after the analysis of the above problems and causes,mainly the following five strategies: Organizing relevant training to strengthen theoretical learning;Conducting thematic activities and experiencing devotion to family and country in practice;Creating teaching situations to guide immersion learning;Supplementing historical background information and linking related contents;Enriching the form of ancient poetry and prose assignments to promote all-round development.
