After entering the "14th Five Year Plan" period, residents’ livelihoods are in a critical period of transformation from "food and clothing oriented" to "leisure enjoyment oriented",and leisure consumption is becoming one of the new points of economic growth. The outline of the 14 th Five Year Plan proposes to accelerate the development of leisure industries such as culture, tourism, and sports, and promote the optimization and upgrading of the economic system.Residents’ income, consumption concepts, and leisure time are important factors that affect leisure consumption. The quality of residents’ life is a comprehensive reflection of factors such as income and expenditure, culture and education, facility construction, and environment. The improvement of quality of residents’ life provides strong conditions for the development of leisure consumption, driving the growth of the leisure economy from the demand side. The economic and social development of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is leading in the country, and the development of leisure economy in this region has a demonstrative effect on other regions. It is of great significance to explore the impact of the quality of life of residents in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration on the development of leisure economy.Firstly, the basic framework of this study is formed, based on sorting out the current research of quality of life and leisure economy at home and abroad, and exploring the basic connotations of quality of life and leisure economy, the construction of evaluation index system, and the mechanism of quality of residents’ life on the development of leisure economy.Subsequently, the overview of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is introduced, and the current situation of the quality of residents’ life and the development of leisure economy in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration are analyzed. At the same time, the indicator system of quality of residents’ life in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is constructed from three dimensions: residents’ living budget, lifestyle, and living environment, and the indicator system of leisure economic development in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is constructed from three dimensions:leisure consumption, leisure policy, and leisure industry. The entropy method was used to calculate the comprehensive scores of quality of residents’ life and leisure economic development in 41 cities of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration from 2015 to 2021,and the analysis was conducted from both spatial and temporal dimensions.Construct a panel baseline regression model to measure the impact of quality of residents’ life on the development of leisure economy, and use the spatial Durbin model to analyze the spatial spillover effect of quality of residents’ life on the development of leisure economy. Then, explore the reasonable path of leisure economic development from various aspects of urban residents’ lives. The research results show that:(1)In terms of quality of residents’ life and leisure economic development, the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration ranks among the forefront in the country, but there are significant differences among the three provinces and one city.(2)The weights measured by the entropy method reflect the degree to which each indicator affects the quality of residents’ life and the development of the leisure economy.(3)The comprehensive scores show that the quality of residents’ life in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is improved continuously, and the overall level of leisure economic development is also increased. However, their regional differences are relatively obvious, with a downward trend from southeast to northwest.(4)The spatial agglomeration characteristics of quality of residents’ life and leisure economic development in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration are obvious, and the overall spatial evolution pattern is relatively stable.(5)The baseline regression results indicate that the quality of residents’ life has a significant promoting effect on the development of leisure economy.Considering the spatial effect, the quality of local residents’ life has a positive spatial spillover effect on the development of leisure economy in neighboring areas. In view of this, this article proposes countermeasures and suggestions to promote the development of leisure economy from the perspective of improving the quality of residents’ life in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration.
