Research On The Mechanism Of British Research Universities’ Participation In Regional Collaborative Innovation

With the development of regional innovation ecosystem research,the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the opportunities of Industry 4.0,research universities have become an important force participating in regional collaborative innovation.Due to the marketization reform and popularization of higher education,British research universities have found a unique path of innovative development.With the development of science and technology innovation strategy,Chinese research universities begin to pay attention to participating in regional collaborative innovation.In order to accelerate innovation modernization and build our country into the powerhouse of innovation,this study attempts to explore the role of British research universities in regional collaborative innovation and the mechanism of their participation in regional collaborative innovation,so as to provide reference for Chinese research universities to participate in regional collaborative innovation.Based on the above background,the core research question of this study is established as follows: what kind of participation mechanism does British research university adopt to achieve the development goal of regional collaborative innovation?Based on Carayannis’ five-helix theory and regional collaborative innovation theory,this paper constructs a theoretical model of this research,which included the driving mechanism,organization mechanism,operation mechanism and guarantee mechanism of British research universities’ participation in regional collaborative innovation.On this basis,this study adopts literature research method and case study method to analyze the overall situation of British research universities’ participation in regional collaborative innovation and the mechanism and practice of typical cases of Imperial College London and University of Cambridge’s participation in regional collaborative innovation.Secondly,this study adopts comparative research method to analyze the commonness and characteristics of the mechanisms of the two research-based universities participating in regional collaborative innovation from the driving mechanism,organization mechanism,operation mechanism and guarantee mechanism.Their common characteristics are as follows: the establishment of internal and external linkage,joint drive,common development drive mechanism;To create an organizational mechanism that breaks boundaries and innovates organizational forms;It promotes the operation mechanism of capital export,construction of collaborative network and realization of capital circulation.We have created a guarantee mechanism for a stable environment and sustainable development.The characteristics of the two are as follows: the operational mechanism based on entrusted governance established by Imperial College London and the collaborative innovation mechanism based on the research university—Science park established by Cambridge University.Finally,combined with the five-helix theory,the problems of our research universities and the characteristics of British research universities participating in regional collaborative innovation,this study puts forward the optimization countermeasures of Chinese research universities participating in collaborative innovation.Build the innovation-driven mechanism to stimulate the innovation and entrepreneurship of research universities and build a research community.Optimize organizational mechanism,break organizational boundary,establish multi-level and multilateral cooperative organizational network mechanism.We will improve operational mechanisms,establish regional collaborative innovation networks,and promote the establishment of new industry-university-research cooperation mechanisms.Improve the guarantee mechanism and strengthen the guarantee mechanism construction for research universities to participate in collaborative innovation.
