| In 2022,the newly revised Geography Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education added the requirement of interdisciplinary subject learning in geography curriculum,and listed geographical tools and geographical practice as a separate chapter,which put forward new requirements for cultivating innovative talents.The concept of STEAM education emphasizes interdisciplinary education and "learning by doing",which aims to solve practical social problems through comprehensive application of knowledge,so as to develop comprehensive talents.Geography practice activities in junior high school aim to enable students to acquire geographical knowledge and skills,and apply them to real-life situations in order to solve practical problems and facilitate the learning process of "learning knowledge-practicing knowledge-deepening understanding knowledge" transformation.This paper focuses on the practice of teaching geography in junior high school,based on the concept of STEAM education.Its goal is to provide guidance for enhancing the design of geography teaching practices in junior high schools,and strengthening the development of core geography literacy in junior high school students.Additionally,the research aims to offer useful insights for junior high school geography teachers who seek to carry out effective geography teaching practices.This study employs literature review,text analysis,and investigation methods to examine the feasibility and practice of junior high school geography practice activities based on the concept of STEAM education.The findings suggest that there are suitable geography practice activities based on this concept in the Hunan Education edition of junior high school geography textbooks.However,some issues remain in implementing practical activities that reflect the educational concept.To address these issues,this paper proposes teaching case design principles,training strategies,and activity development suggestions for geography practice activities based on the STEAM education concept,which can serve as a reference for teachers.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:First,it is feasible to carry out junior high school geography practice activities based on STEAM education concept.Both the STEAM education concept and the geography core literacy of junior high school clearly require the cultivation of students’ comprehensive quality,the enhancement of students’ discipline literacy,and the improvement of students’ ability to solve practical problems with geography knowledge.Secondly,the Hunan Edition of junior high school geography textbooks contains a variety of practical activities suitable for the integration of STEAM education concepts.Although there is no geography teaching syllabus for junior high school based on the STEAM education concept at present,according to the 2022 edition of the curriculum standard and the geography core literacy,combined with the STEAM education concept,the activities can be divided into geographical experiment,social investigation and field investigation,a total of 60 practical activities.Thirdly,the survey results show that currently teachers and students hold a positive attitude towards geography practice activities based on STEAM education concept,but there are still many problems,such as less activities,insufficient social attention,insufficient teaching resources,obvious differences in teachers,students’ knowledge level and learning ability.According to the survey results,it is proposed to attach importance to geographical practice activities based on STEAM education concepts and enhance practical awareness;strengthen teacher training related to STEAM education concepts,increase class arrangement and group cooperation that focusses on integrating STEAM education concepts,and integrate the training strategy of the three parts of knowledge of each subject.Fourthly,based on the above analysis,determine the principle of carrying out junior high school geography practice activities based on the STEAM concept,and give the corresponding teaching case design.The principles include comprehensiveness,practice,life,inquiry and development.Aiming at the development of geography practice activities in junior middle school,the steps of analyzing activity significance,determining activity theme,dividing activity types,determining learning objectives,formulating activity tasks,planning activity programs,displaying works,exchanging gains,summarizing and evaluating are formulated,and teaching cases aiming at three kinds of practical activities are given.It also puts forward several suggestions for teachers to carry out junior high school geography teaching practice activities based on the concept of STEAM. |
