Nowdays,the disciplines play more and more important roles in the development of universities and they would affect the achievement of strategy targets of a country.However, there still exist many confused and much confusion in how to know and evaluate the level of a disciplines, we are being positively considered and seeked for the expected answers by many ways.For solving these questions,the paper systematically studies how to scientifically evaluate a discipline level.Logically, the paper follows the problem-oriented path and expounds a series of problems about the disciplines’ evaluation from two aspects of theory and technology.Firstly,it presents a detailed analysis of the existing situations of disciplines’ evaluation at home and aboard.It focous on the charateristics of several famous discipline rankings.Secondly,it unscramblms the conception of discipline level from the knowledge and further proposes an important view that the discipline level is the logical start and the cycling end in discipline evaluation.Then it analyses the evaluation orientation with S-shaped logistic curve from three aspects including disciplines’ diagnosis,disciplines’ comparision and disciplines’ development.After these,it points out the double value of the evaluation by analyzing the dual characteristic of disciplinary knowledge system and disciplinary organization system.Until these,the paper answers what is the evaluation.Thirdly,considering the complexity and particularity of internal and external environment,the paper consideres the discipline level as a system and looks for the breakthrough point from its influence factors.From the perspective of ecology,it establishes two analysis dimensions including natural dimension and social dimension.After doing these,it difines the influencing factors and divides them into three categories,that is,imported maintenance factor,procedural management factor and exported characterization factor.Besides,it also discusses the interrelation and the influencing mechanism among these factors and builds up the frame of a discipline’s level.So far,it solves the problem of evaluation objective.Forthly,it proposes how to evaluate the level from the theoretical view.The paper systematically studies the construction of the evaluational index system of disciplines’ level.During the course of the study,it uses many kinds of methods,for example,questionnaire methods,expert interviews, delphi,membership and variation coeffi-cient methods.After several rounds of index filtering,it finally constructs an evaluational index system of discipline level including 38 evaluation metrics.Then,the system is checked and approved to possess higher reliability and validity.Fifthly, it further probes on how to evaluate the level from the method view.Considering the shortcomings of exising data evaluation by using the index system,the paper presents a new way of structural evaluation.Furthermore,the paper creatively proposes two kinds of evaluation models on the basis of graphics including the model of plane evaluation and the modelof space evaluation.The former evaluates the discipline level from three aspects including pattern approximate,level approaching and comprehensive level by building two-dimensional plane and using grey incidence theory.The latter is a new kind of complex space model which is based on the three-dimensional plane and multiple views,the model can display the discipline level in a kind of different and more intuitive graphic form on the space,it will help us draw some conclusions from qualitative morphological characters and quantitative space distance.Sixthly,in order to meet the needs of disciplines’ management and evaluation,the paper puts forward a design thought of an intelligent evaluation supporting system of discipline level(DL-IES) in a university.It introduces in details the technological construction and its functional design of this system,then it gives much suggestion on how to design.Until these,it solves the problem of how to evaluate.Last, the paper summarizes the main research results and points out several unsolved problems,then it gives advice and presents further research directions.
