This thesis consists of three parts: the first part is a review that summarize the phytochemical constituents and pharmacological research of Rhododendron. On the basis of this-review, we carried out phytochemical research systematically on the whole plants of fresh Rhododendron athopogoides Maxim, collected in the region of GuiDe of QingHai Province. One hundred and two volatile chemical constituents have been identified from the petroleum ether extracted part by GC-MS, and the relative percentage of them are determined by GC method. The results showed that the volatile constituents of Rhododendron athopogoides Maxim, mainly includes aliphatic acid and ester, aldehyde, ketone, aromatic and its heterocyclic compounds. Twelve chemical constituens were isolated from the trichloromethane extracted part of ethanol extract of Rhododendron athopogoides Maxim., ten of them were identified by means of UV, IR, MS/H-NMR, 13C-NMR and DEPT. Among them ,there two new compounds named as liexiangdujuanine IV and liexiangdujuanine VII, they were isolated from this genius for the first time. At the same time, ten chemical constituents were isolate from the ethyl acetate extracted part of ethanol extract of Rhododendron athopogoides Maxim., including flavones, coumarins and triterpene. The volatile oil of Elsholtxia fruiicosa Rehd. was identified by GC-MS, forty-two constituents were obtained. From the results we can know its main ingredients as following: thymol (20.48%), carvacrol (26.08%), methyl thymyiether(3.09%), isodibutyl phthalate(3.24%) and P-cymene-A-ol (6.56%), from the categories of these compoundes, they are alconols, ketones, alkenes and phenols. The third part of this thesis determined the percentage of thymol in some samples of volatile oil and extracts of Elsholtiza by means of UV, and discuss the extraction and separation! of volatile oil.In all, this thesis can help us understand the chemical constituents of Rhododendron athopogoides Maxim, and Elsholtxia fruticosa Rehd. Systematically and guide medical experiment. It has great preferable value in enlarging medical resource of plants, taxological chemical botany and seeking valid constituents for inhibiting bacterium.
