MgO crystal production using arc furnace is well developed in recent years home and abroad. Advanced technology is mastered by foreign countries, while most of factories in our country can only produce low class crystals due to lack of important production parameters. This paper discusses the design of measuring system for MgO production based on virtual instruments and complete database is built. The goal is to provide technology support for domestic factories to produce high class MgO crystals as soon as possible.A measuring system based on virtual instruments is designed. Multi-channel acquisition technology through PCI interface is used for the signals of current, voltage, temperature and pressure. VISA program is used to acquire active power, power consumption and power factor through a power transducer with serial interface. Two equipments with different interface work simultaneously. The system has a remote panel and can be browsed and controlled on Internet through the DataSocket technology of NI corporation. Anti-interference measures making full use of hardware with software assistance assure that the DAQ cards work reliably and release the software from hard work. Measures of anti-dust and anti-high-temperature are also presented in paper.Measuring system is applied on April 15th in 2005. Now it works effectively on the spot after twice adaptations and has acquired a large number of valuable data that supports fuzzy control and reveal the forming principle of MgO crystals. Requirements of the project are met and reference for development of similar real-time measuring system is given.
