The mode flying shear is an important fixed-length cutting equipment in HSM thick plate line. Now for the need of developing a series of medium plates of 1000MPa yield strength, the shear's loading abilitys is analysed and calculated by using theoretical analysis and experimental research methods to ensure whether the shear have enough ability to cutting high strength steel plate.First, it is tested and verified that B.B. Nosalia formula can be applied to calculate mode flying shear average cutting force on the basis of experiement. Meanwhile, considering the impact amplification factor, it is pointed out that the shear is capable of processing medium plate of 1000MPa yield strength and less than 21mm thickness.Second, according to mechanism movement features , simplifying the mechanisms to be a wry-handles lider, making kinematical equation, applying Simulink module of Matlab to do kinematics simulation, thus obtaining the angular velocity of connecting rod, and the displacement, velocity, acceleration of cross slide simulation curve. Moreover, applying kineto-static analysis to make a fit mechanical model, and the minimum operating speed of flywheel is caculated in view of conservation of energy. Above works can be the basis of theoretical study of shear strength. At last, the main load bearing part including upper knife slide and cross slide is connected by using node coupling technique and is analyzed by FEM. On the basis of global analysis, by using submodel technique, maximum design load is exerted to the shear frame and main parts so as to discover structure of equipment defect and provide devices for equipment overhaul and maintances.
