The study was conducted to investigate the effects of Chinese herbal medicine on immune function in mice.In the first experiment, 3 from 8 Chinese herbs, which increased ACP acticity of celiac microphage, immune organs' weight or weight gain, were selected after the examination in 100 mice. Cy (30g/kg) significantly suppressed immune function and was choosed to make immune-suppressed model of mice in succedent exprements. In the second experiment, 90 mice were employed to study effects of directions I and II on immune function. The results showed that the two directions significantly increased ACP activity of celiac microphage and activity of serum lysozyme at the dose of 20g/kg, 30g/kg and 40g/kg. Direction I presented greater improvement of ACP activity than dicrection II. However direction II possessed more effect on activity of serum lysozyme than direction I . Direcition I markedly increased spleen index without effect on thymus index. Direction II increased spleen index and thymus index totally. Both directions affect the spleen to a certain extent on morphology. It is concluded that both directions have significant effect on immune function. In the third experiment, 60 mice were immnunized by chicken red blood cell and were divided into 2 groups. One group of mice were left as control and another were intraperitoneally injected with Cy to make a immune-suppressed model. Direction I significantly increased the contents of serum IgM antibody of both normal and immune-suppressed mice. Whereas direciotion II only increase this paramater of immune-suppressed mice. The activity of ACP of spleen of both groups was enhanced by both directions with restoration of ACP of immune-suppressed mice to normal. Direcion I and II without effect on normal mice can recover the diminish of DNA of thymus andsplenn caused by Cy. The contents of protein and RNA of spleen were reduced by both directions. Both directions can reduce protein/DNA of spleen of immune-suppressed mice howerver only direction II presented reduction in normal mice. The forth experiment also divided 60 mice into normal and immune-suppressed group. Direction I and II both suppressed DHT of normal mice, which was induced by DNCB, however they did not present obvious impact on DHT of immuned-suppressde mice.It is concluded that both directions played a major part in the improvement and regulation of immune function in mice. Practical application of the two directions in live farming however demands more examination and formula adjustment.
