Clinical Study Of Zhibaiqianqing Decoction In Treating Chronic Prostatitis

Objective To observe the curative effect of ZhiBaiQianQing decoction (ZBQQ) for chronic prostatitis (CP) and its influence on interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) in expressed prostatic secretion (EPS) and seminal plasma, and explore the mechanism.Methods 80 cases come from andrology unit from August in 2003 to October in 2004. Patients of chronic prostatitis were divided randomly into 2 groups. 40 cases were served with ZBQQ decoction(observe group), 40 cases were treated by QianLieKang (QLK) table(control group). Compared the curative effect of the two groups. All the cases underwent semen analysis. IL-6 and TNF- a levels were measured in expressed prostatic secretion and seminal plasma of patients by radioimmuoassay.Results (l)The cure rate in clinic of ZBQQ group was 35%, and overall effective rate was 72.5%, significantly higher than that of QLK group (P<0.05, P<0.05 ) .(2)Both IL-6 and TNF- a concentration in the expressed prostatic secretion were markedly elevated in the chronic prostatitis patients as compared with the healthy persons ( P<0.01 ) .The levels declined significantly after treatment of ZBQQ ( P<0.05 and P<0.01 ), while in the group treated with QLK, TNF- a lowered significantly after treatment ( P<0.05 ) but IL-6 didn't lower. (3)Both the levels of IL-6 and TNF- a of seminal plasma were significantly higher in patients than those in the healthy persons (P<0.05 and P<0.01) . The levels decreased significantly after treatment of ZBQQ( P<0.05 and P<0.01), while in the group treated with QLK, IL-6 lowered significantly after treatment ( P<0.05 ) but TNF- a didn't lower. (4)Sperm density, motility rate and liquefaction time of CP group were significantly higher than those of the normal group (P<0.05 , P<0.01 and P<0.01 ). After treated with ZBQQ, sperm density and motility rate were markedly elevated (P<0.05 and P<0.01 ), and liquefaction time were significantly shorter (P<0.01) .Conclusion (l)ZBQQ decoction has shown definite effect on chronic prostatitis. (2) ZBQQ decoction can obviously lower the levels of IL-6 and TNF- a of expressed prostatic secretion and seminal plasma, and improve the sperm quality.
