Objective To investigate correlation of Pituitary tumor- transforming gene (PTTG), basic fibroblast growth factor(b-FGF) and micro-vessel density(MVD) in adenomyotic tissue. Methods The expression of PTTGmRNA was assessed by In situ Hybridization (ISH) in 35 cases of the eutopic and ectopic endometrium of adenomyosis. Microvessel were highlighted by staining endothelial cells with CD34 antigen and MVDs were counted. The expression of PTTG protein and b-FGF protein were detected by immunohistochemistriy usingSP.Results At the level of mRNA and protein, PTTG was not or weakly expressed in normal endometrium, weakly or moderately expressed in eutopic endonmetrium, and moderately or strongly expressed in ectopic endometrium (p<0.05respectively);The expression of b-FGF protein was gradually significantly increased in the normal and eutopic and ectopic endometrium (p<0. 05respective-ly); MVD was gradually increased in the normal and eutopic endometrim and ectopic endometrium (p<0.05respectively); PTTG expression correlated significantly with b-FGF expression and MVD in adenomyotic tissue. Conclusions There were high expressions of PTTG , b-FGF and MVD in ectopic endometrium; PTTG may play an important role in angiogenesis by promoting the expression of b-FGF in adenomyosis.
