To study the expression of alpha B crystallin and active caspase-3 in the oral verrucous carcinoma as well as its three subtypes, oral squamous cell carcinoma, and their relationship with clinicopathologic parameters, investigating the possible mechanism of action for the two proteins in oral verrucous carcinoma and oral squamous cell carcinoma, revealing the molecular mechanism of oral verrucous carcinoma as well as its three subtypes and oral squamous cell carcinoma, and providing the profit for early diagnosis, prognosis assessment and treatment of OVC.The immunohistochemistry technique was used to detect the expression of alpha B crystallin and active caspase-3 in 17 OVC tissues, 15 oral squamous carcinoma (OSCC) tissues and 15 normal oral mucosa tissues.Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 16.0 software.1.Expression of alpha B crystallin The expression rates of OVC, OSCC, NM were significantly different when totally compared (p<0.05). The expression rates of OVC, OSCC were significantly higher than those in NM (p<0.05),and the expression rate in OVC was significantly lower than those in OSCC(p<0.05).In OVC, the expression rate of cyst-infiltrating type was higher than those in exogenic type(p<0.05); Compared with well/poor differentiated OSCC:exogenic OVC0.05)but between exogenic OVC and poor differentiated OSCC(p<0.05);there was no significant difference between cyst-infiltrating OVC and well/poor differentiated OSCC (p>0.05).Compared with the clinicopathologic parameters:in OVC, the staining was related with the clinical types (p<0.05);while in OSCC, the staining was related with the clinical stage, the expression rate inâ…¢-â…£was higher than those inâ… -â…¡(p<0.05)2.Expression of active caspase-3 The expression rates of OVC, OSCC, NM were significantly different when totally compared (p<0.05). The expression rates of OVC,OSCC were significantly lower than those in NM (p<0.05),but there is no significant difference between OVC and OSCC (p>0.05).In VOC,there was no significant difference between cyst-infiltrating and exogenic type (p>0.05).Compared with well/poor differentiated OSCC:cyst-infiltrating OVC0.05),cyst-infiltrating OVC was significantly lower than well differentiated OSCC (p<0.05)but no significant difference with poor differentiated OSCC (p>0.05).Compared with the clinicopathologic parameters:there were no significant difference in both OVC and OSCC (p>0.05)3.Spearman anlysis showed that alpha B crystallin was inversely associated with expression of active caspase-3 in OVC.(r=-0.547, P<0.05),but no significant relationship in OSCC(r=-0.363,p>0.05)1.The expression of alpha B crystallin and active caspase-3 may contribute to the carcinogenesis of OVC and OSCC, and has close relationship with the malignant potential of tumors.2.The expression of alpha B crystallin may have close relationship with the malignant potential of the different subtypes of OVC and OSCC.3.In OVC,the alpha B crystallin produce its effect may by inhibiting the activation of caspase-3.
