Degree Adverbs are used to describe the properties of things as well as to modify adjectives, verbs, some verb-object structures, adverbials and noun phrases. Degree adverbs exist both in Chinese and Korean, and they share similarities and differences in semantics and syntactic structures. It holds much significance to study the degree adverbs from both languages.There are not many degree adverbs in modern Chinese, but they are used quite frequently, each with distinct meaning and usage. Only about ten degree adverbs are used frequently, but their significance can not be ignored. This article holds the view that since degree adverbs are used to express degree, it isreasonable to categorize them according to the range of degree they express. In addition, degree adverbs can be used to modify adjectives and verbs, even some phrasal verbs and nouns. This article will review the literature on this issue and seek to find the internal reason for the syntactic function.Quite a few similarities can be found between the meaning of degree adverbs in modern Korean and those in modern Chinese, but difference exist in their syntactic functions. So a comparative study will be conducted to explain some of the differences between these two languages. There are not many degree adverbs in Korean, thus they hold quite an important position. This article will do a detailed analysis of some frequently used Korean degree adverbs. And the results will be analyzed to find out the similarities and differences between modern Chinese and Korean. This will put significant contribution into the teaching of Chinese.This article seeks to study the degree adverbs in Chinese and Korean based on the previous literature and research. The study will be mostly from the semantics and syntactic structure points of views. And a corpus study will be used to better study and compare the similarities and differences of the degreeadverbs from both languages.
