Self-concept is the core of the construction of individual's personality. It is also individual's consciousness and subjective evaluation to own physical, psychological and social function. Senior high school students at puberty is in the key period of continual development of self-concept. "Reversed psychology" and other problems at the time are almost related to the level of self-concept and influence his behavior, trait and mental health. Relative researches found that the whole self-concept and other factors were significantly related to the level of health. Generally speaking, individual possessing satisfactory self-concept evaluates himself more objectively and takes on himself pleasantly and positively. Therefore, it will affect individual's own mental health.In spite of many relative researches, a research about self-concept in dieters is still fresh. Participants of this study, senior high school female dieters, are quite rare in former study. This study was conducted to determine self-concept, mental health status of a group of senior high school female dieters and their relationship in order to supply academic sustaiment for counselors and educators in senior high school students' healthy education and prevention, diagnosis and therapy of psychological disorders.Research adopted Questionnaires and Interview. Research instruments include complied dieting information questionnaire, SDQII (Self-Description Questionnaires) and SCL-90(Symptoms Checklist-90). This study connected quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis. 6 female dieters in two Senior high schools of Shanghai were interviewed to provide some dieting information. In terms of it, dieting information questionnaire was complied. 110 participants, who had dieting experience in the past 12 months, were chosen among female students in three different Senior high schools to complete SCQII and SCL-90. The conclusions displayed that:1. Participants possessed significantly lower self-concept of scholarship and emotional stability and significantly higher self concept of general self and heterosexual relationship compared with reference norms. Participants in the key senior high school of the city possess significantly lower honesty self-concept compared with those in the key senior high school of the district. There is no difference in self-concept among different grades.2. Participants possessed significantly more mental disorders compared withreference norms. Participants in the key senior high school of the district possessed significantly more satisfactory mental healthy status compared with those in the key senior high school of the city and ordinary senior high school. There is no difference in mental healthy status among different grades.3. According to different BMI (Body Mass Index), participants included someone very underweight, slightly underweight, with normal weight and slightly overweight. Someone slightly underweight possess significantly higher whole self-concept compared with someone with normal weight and slightly overweight. Someone very underweight possessed significantly higher appearance self-concept compared with someone with normal weight. Someone slightly underweight possess significantly higher appearance self-concept compared with someone with normal weight and slightly overweight.4. The level of participants' self-concept and mental health indicated highly positive relation.5. The largest influence on mental healthy level in participants is self-concept of emotional stability and the second is maths' self-concept.
