Focus On High School Mental Health Education Model Study

This research is to discuss efficient teaching modes of mental health in key senior high schools. The object of mental health and quality education are all students. Reviewing the history of psychological instruction and consultation development at home and abroad, we can make sure that the functions of mental health education are as follows:l .To promote the students' healthy and overall personality and to improve their intellectual and non-intellectual level. This is the core function.2. To give preventive instructions of common subject according to the age of the students.3. To offer professional psychological consultation to individual students to help them overcome the mental obsession.Based on the body and mind characteristics of key senior high school students, this teaching mode uses Albert Ellis' theory of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, adopting 3 methods as grading collective psychological instruction centered on this theory, group instruction with "self1 concept as a cut-in point, and individual one-to-one psychological consultation. Meanwhile we choose AAT (Academic Aptitude Test) and MHT (Mental Health Test) index as our evaluating indicator to observe the efficiency of psychological instructions.The study result indicates that instructing, studying and training the "ABDEF" diagram under Albert Ellis' theory of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy in the key senior highschools are conducive to improving students' mental health and to bettering the school's environment. The group instruction plan with "self" concept as its cut-in point is efficient in strengthening the student's independence and willpower, improving their friendship, and easing worry, self-accusation and loneliness. The study also indicates that school mental health education is a systematic engineering. It relies on family, school, community and the whole society's cooperation. But first we must improve the teacher's mental quality by training their rational thinking and increase their consciousness and ability for developing and preventive mental health teaching. Second, the school mental health education must keep to the special rule of education. The purpose of our school teaching is to cultivate the successors and constructors of socialism who will keep in line with the mainstream culture. So the principle of "neutrality" should be more understood as a teaching skill dealing with students' psychological problems.
