International organizations, transnational corporations sprung up onto the international stage just like bamboo shoots after a spring rain. The request for communication increased sharply. Therefore diplomacy has come to the era of multilateral diplomacy. The enhancement of international mutual interdependence, economic globalization, and the rapid development of regional integration push forward the progress of multilateral diplomacy. The demand of global governance has gone a step further to strengthen the status of multilateral diplomacy in every country's comprehensive diplomacy. The development of modern technology and transportation prepare convenient condition for the expanding and growth of multilateral diplomacy.Multilateral diplomacy is usually centered on international conferences and organizations in progress. Because it has the features of flexible forms, easy communication, systematic action and its purpose for corporation not for conflict, it finds favor in every government's eyes. So does China. As the limitation of objective international surroundings and our subjective cognition, china has experienced a tortuous way in attending multilateral diplomacy. In a twinkling of an eye, the wheels of history have gone beyond 21 century. Historic trend, the deep-going of the Policy of Reform and Open, the pressure that America brings to bear on us, the requirement for maintaining and furthering our national interests and the need of setting up a responsible constructive world power etc. come in a continuous stream. They require us to give active replies. China uses the method of multilateral diplomacy nimbly to adapt, satisfy these requirements and alleviates the pressure. The multilateral diplomatic activities that China has taken part in can be classified as four models, that is : international conferences, multilateral coordination, regional organizations and global international organizations. They have their own features and merits. They manifest the principle of maintaining independence and keep the initiative in our own hands that we have long adhered to, show us the varied forms of China's multilateral diplomacy and the constructive figure of China in international affairs. China's multilateral diplomacy has occupied a very important place in China's synthetic diplomatic strategy and played an eminent role, that is : accelerating the growth of China and the reinforcement of our comprehensive national might, containing the split force, relaxing the strategic pressure on our nation, heading off bilateral conflicts,bringing about a peaceful and stable situation for China's Peaceful Rise.Nevertheless, multilateral diplomacy is not for all—purpose. It can not solve all the problems we are facing; its settlement to some problems is just to some extend. Meanwhile; the lack of force for China restricts the elaboration of multilateral diplomacy's effect. Hence we need pay attention to the problem of "borrowing power" when unfolding multilateral diplomacy, the coordinate with bilateral diplomacy as well as the flexibility of multilateral diplomacy shall not deviated the two cores of developing economy and maintaining nation's unification. We should follow the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence and international law in launch multilateral diplomacy.In brief, multilateral diplomacy need our continuous care and active impetus.
