With the tread of openness, integration, and professionalism of teacher education in China, and under an oriented and narrow educated system for hundreds of years, normal universities and colleges face both internal and external challenges. Objectively speaking, normal universities and colleges have to reconsider their own position in development, and they expect a reform to try after a newer development. This thesis tries to study the development issue of normal university and college under the background of teacher education reform. It can be divided into four parts in this thesis. In the first part, look back to the merger and the history of teacher education in China. Firstly, a brief review to the developing phases before and after the foundation of Republic of China in 1949. Secondly, an analysis on the background of teacher education in china. Thirdly, we point out that, in overall, the teacher education in China characterized by the following four aspects:comprehension and pluralism , higher-qualifications in education and higher-competence, integration and professionalism in teacher education. In the second part, we discuss about the inspiration of developed countries for China. A brief analysis on the track of developed countries such as American, Britain, France and Germany, and then a conclusion of the tread of teacher education in developed countries, that is, from the narrow to openness, from low-level to high-level, from separation in the teacher system to the unification, from vocation to profession, from single function to multifunction. At the same time, we discuss the inspiration of these trends for the reform of normal universities and colleges in China. In the third part, we analyze the present situation and the facing challenges of normal universities and colleges in China. Firstly, by analyzing the main characters and the position and functions of normal universities and colleges, we point out that the existing problems in our normal universities and colleges. Secondly, we analyze the challenges that the curriculum reform in basic education, comprehensive university taking on teacher education, market economy system, the development of technology and information bring to normal universities and colleges. At last, we point out the necessity and the urgency of the reform of our normal universities and colleges. In the last part, we give the solutions for the reform and the development stratagem of normal universities and colleges. Aiming at the existing problems, borrowing the experiences from developed countries, we should put forward to the reform and development of normal universities and colleges steadily. At first, this thesis points out that our normal universities and colleges should change their concepts and find a reasonable position suited for them. And then, following the whole train of teacher education, this thesis offers the counterpart stratagems from the structure, system, the educating mode, the internal management, curriculum and methodology, methods and ways to the constructing of teachers'groups. At the end of this part, this thesis points out that the development of normal universities and colleges lies in a comprehensive way characterized on the teacher education after all. At the same time, we should deal with the relation between the principle of education and the technicality, the characteristics and the comprehensiveness.
