A Research On The Consistency And Difference Of Urban Residents' Evaluation Of Occupational Prestige

Occupational Prestige is the subjective evaluation that people give the society position of various occupations according to individual experience of life, and it is the important embodiment of people's occupation values. Evaluation of occupational prestige can reflect the grade difference of occupation, and represent social central value. To some extent, it also reflects the division of the social structure. Relevant theory and experience research results attempted to use for reference both at home and abroad in this research, especially the research approach of evaluation of occupational prestige domestic and international in the past. On the basis of social stratification theories, through the research of characteristic that evaluation of occupational prestige in wuhan in 2004 and relatively study of occupational prestige appraise altogether to Wuhan Beijing and Shenzhen correctly, prove that the theory hypothesis that the consistency and difference of evaluation of occupational prestige existing at the same time in our country in the transitional society at present, and explain the reason of phenomenon with role's theory , social cultural changes theory , social cognitive theory. Thus it reflects that the values of our country and division the social structure impact on people's ideology. Research goes on the investigation to more than 700 citizens in Wuhan with occupational prestige questionnaires that design by myself. Using spss11.5 to analyze and count the census data, I has described the basic characteristic that evaluation of occupational prestige of citizen in Wuhan objectively in 2004 at first, and then analyze the evaluation characteristic of different social groups. Different sex colonies, different age colonies, different schooling colonies and different professional colony have similarity and difference at the same time. ( Pearson correlation coefficient above 0.850 ,remarkable horizontal α=0.01). The above analysis proves that nowadays evaluation consistency and difference of China's urban occupational prestige exist at the same time. The relative research on evaluation of occupational prestige of three cities---Wuhan , Beijing , Shenzhen, discover that they are highly relevant, and their coefficient correlation is greater than 0.8. According to sequencing of two coefficient correlation and occupation sequence compared with of three cities, consistency of occupational prestige of Beijing and Wuhan is a little higher comparatively speaking, compared the difference should be a little greater in Shenzhen . Citizens in Shenzhen value power even more than citizens of Beijing and Wuhan. Occupational prestige of different sex colonies, different age colony, different schooling colony, and different professional colony of three places have similarity and difference at the same time. According to the analysis of the above, this research proves the theory hypothesis that Treiman etc. put forward ---"occupational prestige array has consistency and stability to same extent, and this kind of consistency and stability are two pieces of nature because of social structure basically --The necessity of the function and necessity of the organization --cause". It is also verified with the opinion that put forward by Qiang Li---"In the period of sharply transition, several values system and social norm that conflict exist in society. And the crowd of different values systems will produce the view against at all in the evaluation of occupational prestige, the view that so that produce splitting social assessment".
