Classroom teaching has been carried on for a long time, but the gap between the students is still a big problem. Now in China, because of weak fundamental education and little investment in many areas, the discrepancy of the English reading level for each student is becoming bigger and bigger, which affects the development of English reading in junior middle school seriously. After a long-time teaching practice, the key point to solve the problem is Grading Teaching Model, which is defined as a teaching model which teachers scientifically divide the students into three groups according to their known knowledge, ability and talent trend, and each group at the same level can be treated distinctly. These groups can get developed and improved quickly under proper level teaching strategies and interaction.So this paper intends to introduce the Grading Teaching Model to the English reading teaching and divide the students into three levels, high-level students, middle-level students and low-level students, based on the students’ test score and their daily performance. Both in and after class, the author tries to design different tasks respectively to make the students of different levels take part in the class activities actively with the purpose of bridging the gap between students at different levels and making each student get a rapid progress as soon as possible.The research will take the quantitative and qualitative study, through the data collection and analysis of tests and questionnaires, we can get three expected results: 1. Grading Teaching is helpful to improve students’ reading ability; 2. Grading Teaching Model can bridge the gap between students of different levels and make them get a better developed; 3. Grading Teaching Model in English reading can be effectively and favorably applied to junior high schools. However, there are some limitations in the process of implementation of Grading Teaching, so it deserves further study in the future.
