This thesis is based on the research of the essence of research-oriented schools---knowledge innovation, and it has adopted the latest theoretical findings in Pedagogy of Higher Education, Education Administration, Psychology and related studies, and it emphasizes independent thinking and innovation, applies research methods of literature, comparison, interview and so on. Firstly, it analyses and clarifies the relative concepts and theoretical foundation of research-oriented schools, student management modes and so on; secondly, it expounds the necessity of construction of student management modes of research-oriented schools, and systematically analyses the major problems and reasons of the present student management, and theories of meaning and features of research-oriented universities and schools, and those of student management modes of research-oriented schools based on the comparison, analysis and drawing on the experiences of the student management of American universities and colleges, and it systematically constructs the modes in aspects of the goal, principles, content, approaches and construction of faculty of student management.
