A Research Into The Social Capital's Influence On Postgraduates' Employment

At present,the difficult employment situation of graduate students has risen to a hot issue concerned by all circles in our society. How to make all the high-quality personnel work smoothly has became a sociological problems that demand to solve urgently in China. From different points of view,the academic community have analyzed this problem.From the macro level,a nubmer of scholars have studied the reasons of the difficult employment situation,as following:the higher education,from "elite education" to "mass education",the large population base pressures upon the employment,And other causes such as:Knowledge Economy,the Information Age,China's accession to the WTO,industrial restructure and the transformation of economic growth all affected the employment situation.Some other scholars researched the issue from the perspective of micro level,for example:the settings of college speciality and the demanding of society are out of joint,the shortage of human resources of graduate students,and the students'high employment expectations. This article studied and interpreted the employment of graduates in the perspective of social capital,In this paper, It will base on the concept of social capital of Bourdieu, Linnan, Granovetter and Bian Yanjie, social capital will be divided into individual and public social capital,individual social capital is further operated into gender,family ecomomic status,social status of parents and relatives,the size of its own network resources (friends,classmates,fellow number of cases.);public social capital is further developed into employment guidance from the Career Center,various social groups of universities,such as alumna,or other social groups in which individual took part,and so on.This paper analyzing the employment of post-graduate from the perspectives of employment opportunity and quality,then draw the following conclusion:1. Social capital plays an important role in the employment of postgraduate,most of them have been aware of the function of social capital.2.Gender,social status of graduates'parents and their relatives,and social internet resources have a great influence on postgraduate employment as well.Career Center also has a significant effect on opportunities and quality of employment.3.The current situation and inefficient utilization of post-graduates' social capital shows that we should make use of different channels to accumulate the stock of social capital and to improve the utilization of social capital.
