The polysemy is a common phenomenon in the Chinese vocabulary,it will appears in the initial stage and runs through the whole process of learning Chinese, so teaching polysemy is the emphasis of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.But in most cases,Chinese learners will be easily confused by many meanings of polysemy,lead to the inaccurate or inappropriate of their expression.So teaching polysemy is also the difficult point in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Learning polysemy is dependent on the context.Only in the specific context,pplysemy can be expressed in the exact clear meaning.Therefore,teaching polysemy should be combined with context. This paper advocates to apply context in teaching polysemy of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, by creating different contexts.The contexts can make it easier for Chinese learners to understand and grasp the meaning and the usage of the polysemy.First of all,this paper summarizes the basic concepts of context、polysemy and related issues on the base of predecessors’ research results,that provides theoretical basis for the full text.Secondly, analyses the necessity and principle of using the context in teaching polysemy of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.In the end,under the guidance of specific principles,the context will be used in teaching typical examples of polysemy,and puts forward some teaching suggestions.I hope this paper can provide some useful suggestions in teaching polysemy of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
