Our country processes long coasts and many islands, and these islands are very important for tour industry, fishery and national defence. Some serious problems, such as lack water, poor quality of drinking water and environmental pollution aroused by wastewater, are brought by exploiture of these islands. In order to accelerate the development of islands and improve the standard of living, it is necessary to provide enough and eligible water. On the other hand, it is also necessary to treat the wastewater for the sustainable development of the island water source. Due to the characteristics of parochial land areas, restricted capability of retentive fresh water, weak biogeocenose etc., it is necessary to introduce the idea of "circulation economy", as well as exert merits and abstain demerits ,so as to build an economic and water -saving mode of insular water recycling.Taking the sustainable development theory as the guide, a water recycling mode for island is put forward in this paper. The feasibility of the mode is discussed from three sides, including technology, economy and environment. Then the surveys about entironment of Haiwang islands are performed. The emphasis of the present work is to apply the water recycling mode in Haiwang islands according to its water supply and drainage, the main contents of this paper could be generalized as follow:1. The present situation of insular water resources is reviewed, then the characteristics of insular water resources are analyzed and the facing problems of insular water resources are put forward.2. The main economic modes of insular water recycling are summarized, contrasting to these modes, desalination of seawater or brackish water is supported to be the best way for carrying out insular water recycling modes. It would provide a broad developing future for water recycling economy of islands by combining desalination of seawater or brackish water and mobile water treatment equipment.3. A mobile water-recycling-economy-mode for islands is established, and its feasibility is discussed from three sides, including technology, economy and environment. The meaning and action of a portable drinking water machine and a mobile domestic wastewater treatment facility in islands is also discussed. 4. Taking Haiwang islands as an example, a minitype-water-recycling-economy mode is researched. The application of the mode is anatomized by analyzing pictures, questionnaires and data, and this water recycling mode is feasible and significative, which can help to realize the sustainable development of water resources in islands of China.
