With a vast territory, China has a large population with relatively little farmland, and a great many geographical variations with uneven distribution of resources. It is just the accessible railway transport network that can not only integrate the land in space, but also promote coordinated development of regional economy of the whole nation. Railway construction largely determines the spatial distribution of national productivity. As a representative of modern high technology railway passenger traffic, with its significant technical and economic advantages, the high-speed railway has far-reaching impacts in promoting regional economic and social development along the route.By systematically combing and assessing the relevant theory and research findings at home and abroad, this thesis analyzes the mechanism of the impact of high-speed railway on regional development, and further divides the impact into two parts of direct and indirect impact, specifically including seven aspects of the creation or improvement of accessibility in areas along the region, cities and zone bit, promotion of economic growth along the region, driving the development of tertiary industry, acceleration of the urbanization process of cities along, creation and increase of employment opportunities, promotion of high-tech industrial development, reduce of environmental costs and protection the ecological environment, which make a theoretical basis for the later quantitative analysis and provide the basis for constructing analytical index system.In the empirical part, by with and without comparison method, taking the direct and indirect impact of Beijing-Tianjin Inter-city Railway on Beijing-Tianjin region as the example, this thesis compares the changes of passenger weighted average time, GDP, tertiary industry GDP and other indicators, in two cases of "with" and'without" high-speed railway after putting into operation of Beijing-Tianjin Inter-city Railway in 2008 and 2009. Through the rate of changes of these indicators, this thesis shows impact of Beijing-Tianjin Inter-city Railway on Beijing-Tianjin region. Finally, through the comprehensive analysis and conclusion of the various rates of changes, and on the basis of the study on the reasons, this thesis presents the policy suggestions on how to exert the induct function of high-speed railway to promote social and economic development of various regions in the future, especially of Beijing-Tianjin region.
