UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source fails.And it is typically used to computers,data centers,telecommunication equipment or other electrical equipment where an unexpected power disruption could cause injuries,fatalities,serious business disruption and/or data loss.The quality and availability of UPS have become vitally important.With the Chinese market increasing,the worldwide main UPS suppliers beefed up their market efforts significantly in Chinese market in an attempt to increase their own market share,and all the UPS companies accelerate their development process to decrease the product development life cycle.In this case,how to ensure the product development on schedule is a problem faced by all the UPS companies.This thesis does the case study on the Px3 UPS development project in M company,to analyze the issues of Schedule Change,figure out the reasons, and provide the solutions.The project management theory and survey result are used as the basis during the research,combining the technique of theory analysis and demonstration.This thesis investigates the major affecting factors as well as the detail reasons to the schedule change of Px3 UPS development project,as a result,the suggested ways are provided to solve this issue.Firstly,the background of M company and Px3 UPS development project is introduced,together with its development process and WBS of Px3 project. Through surveys and expert review,this thesis summarizes the major factors which lead to the Schedule Change of Px3 project.Subsequently,each factor will be detailed analyzed one by one to find out the root causes,and put forward the corresponding solutions,at the same time,the methods and tools applied in Px3 project are provided.According to survey results and statistics analysis,five major factors, which cause the schedule change to Px3 UPS developing project,are figured out.Scope change is the No.1 factor, which causes most of changes to project schedule.Secondly,activity duration change leads to project schedule delay due to the difficulty of duration estimation.Thirdly,design change impacts the project schedule due to repeated efforts put on the same job.Fourthly,the samples delivery over schedule causes design validation delay due to no prototype built to be tested without samples.Finally,the responsibility assignment in design teams is unclear, which causes some tasks missing and ownership lacking.Aiming at these five major factors,this thesis brings forward corresponding solutions which validated in Px3 project. The templates practiced in Px3 project are provided.The schedule was well controlled after the solutions implemented in the Px3 UPS development project. Hope the analysis of Schedule Change and solutions could be a reference to other product development projects.
