Innovation and core competence are one of the hot topics in the field of enterprise and academic nowadays. But, for a very long time, researchers studied both of them in a relatively independent way. The core competence theory put forward by C.K. Prahalad and Gary Hamel in 1990s explains reasonably the competitive advantages and the source of sustainable development for enterprises. But the theory seemingly cannot give a satisfactory answer in the aspects of how to construct, maintain and promote the core competence. Through a deep study for innovation and core competence, this paper insists that innovation is just a key to build the core competence, and establishes a mutual model which explains the relationship between them vividly. Theories should put into practice. Starting from the above-mentioned theory, this paper made a comparative study between China and the developed countries, such as .U.S.A and Japan. Also this paper found out the real reason of distance and offered the corresponding solutions. Systems are the common features for all things, and contradiction is the force to promote the development of things. This paper is not an exception, which adopts systematic and contradictory ideas so as to achieve a philosophical exaltation . Finally, this paper made a case analysis, and showed the great contribution made by innovation for the maiatance and promotion of core competence. On the whole, the study for innovation and core competence not only has some certain prophetical in theory, but also has very important and actually instructive meanings for China's enterprises entering World 500 and realizing the great national revival.
