Job burnout is a syndrome of emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced personal accomplishment that can occur among individuals who do people work of some kind. Job burnout is a newly developed research subject in psychological field in the recent 30 years. At present, the domestic research mainly concentrates on working group as teacher, nurse, etc; and research on civil servant is hardly seen.The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between coping styles and job burnout of civil servant. Study used questionnaires to the 753 civil servants of He chuan area, survey questionnaires were:the Stress Coping Styles Questionnaires of Civil Servants and Job Burnout Inventory. Data analysis used independent samples t test, variance analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis. Through the research, we draw conclusions as follows:(1)Civil stress coping questionnaire had good reliability and validity, which could be used as a research measure.(2)Job burnout of civil servant in He chuan area was at a medium level, and reduced personal accomplishment was the most serious, followed by emotional exhaustion.(3)There were significant differences in demographic variables as different gender, marital status, educational background, rank and work years among some aspects of job burnout.(4)There were significant differences in demographic variables as different gender, marital status, educational background, rank and work years among different coping styles.(5)Coping styles and job burnout of civil servant was significantly related, and different coping styles can predict different dimensions of job burnout. Emotional escape, fantasy, emotional assistance could significantly predict emotional exhaustion; Problems avoiding and complain were significant predictors of cynicism; Problem solving, problem escape, emotional assistance, problem assistance were significant predictors of reduced personal accomplishment.In the light of the findings of the research, this paper proposed strategies of alleviating job burnout of civil servant.
