As an important mode in the quality-orientation education, the situational teaching is beneficial for improving students'thoughts and comprehensive abilities. The teaching efficiency is also improved. Therefore, the situational teaching has been widely used. However, the research on the situational teaching is not enough and systematic. The classification on the situation setting is in chaos and the definition on the situational modes is not clear. To solve this problem, the systematic research on the situational teaching of senior geography based on multimedia technologies is completed according the author's teaching experience in many years.In this paper, the theoretical basis, the theoretical characteristics and the practical significance of the situational teaching of senior geography based on multimedia technologies are firstly clarified, combining the constructivism theory and the situation cognitive theory, characteristics of senior students and the teaching characteristics of the senior geography. Through comparing characteristics and their application scopes of three methods of the situation setting, it comes to the conclusion that the multimedia technology is the most important mean for the situational teaching of the senior geography.Then, application principles and strategies of the situational teaching are proposed according to the teaching practice. The classification principle and concrete forms of the situation setting are also illustrated.At last, the case teaching and the questionnaire are conducted based on the above principles and application strategies. The conclusion from the results is as follows: the combination of situational teaching with the conventional education mode is an efficient approach for the quality-orientation education of the senior geography. Its teaching effect is significant and it is also widely accepted by students.According to the research in this paper, the classification method of the situation setting in the multimedia technologies and its application scopes, principles and essentials are all clarified. The theory of the situational teaching is also enriched and can supply instructions for the situational teaching of the senior geography.
