With the gradual deepening of the school physical education reform and the promotion of Sunny Sports, major changes have taken place in the content of physics in school. Since there are differences between schools in the city centre and the rural ones on courses and facilities, we are interested in what has happened in physical education in rural schools, especially the selected track and field course after carrying out the new standard of courses.With the help of literature, survey, questionnaire and statistics method, this paper focuses on the status of selective track and field course in rural schools such as Ninghe, Jixian, Jinghai, Baodi, Wuqing in Tianjin. Based on the results, the paper aims to promote the level of the class and provides suggestions for teaching reform of track and field course in rural high schools.Conclusion drawn from the research:1The selective system of the PE class in high school of Tianjin is half student-oriented.Due to the objective reasons for limiting conditions,the school can only apply the track and field events for the mainly contents of the selected track and field course of the PEclass Thirteen schools initiate the new courses with seven schools not. And it is basically in senior high school of grade two, Among the initiates, nine schools have10-20sessions, and four schools have21-30sessions.2Main reason why most male and female students, making up62.9%of the total are not interested in track and field is the dull teaching contents and methods. The new style of sport’s shock and the difficulties to learn come the third among the students.3About63.6percent of the students register the selected track and field course. Male and female students have basically parallel motives and aims. The top three motives are:the united arrangement of the school, physical training, and dealing with the exam. While for the rest students the motives and aims why they did not register the selected track and field course are that:firstly dull teaching contents rank high among male students in not registering the class ahead of lack of interest and third-place new style of sport. For female students, competitive and difficult to grasp the motor skill come the second and the third. 4For rural high schools in tian jin,the results about carrying out the " sports and health curriculum sandards"are relatively good,And the contents and the aim in course standard are skills learning and improving. Goal setting is not accurate and comprehensive enough to meet the general purpose of physical education in the outline.5Teaching contents in rural high school in Tianjin includes sprints, long distance races, relays, triple jump.61.5percent of the schools have small sections in courses. The teaching method includes illustrate method, decomposition method, model law and complete method. However60.5percent of the students are not satisfied with track and field teaching method. Standard for assessment is Sport and Healthy Curriculum Standard. A more creative and attractive teaching method will be vital in track and field teaching reform for the future.6The high ratio of young and middle-aged teachers makes it essentially valid in the age structure of PE teachers in rural high school. The structure of gender is not reasonable enough. Most of the teachers have bachelor degrees. The specific knowledge is mainly on ball games among PE teachers.76.9percent of the teachers would like to participate in the upgrading training of which most teachers have a better understanding.7We cannot be optimistic about the venue in rural high school in Tianjin. Only one of five schools’ playgrounds is well equipped with400-meter protective underlay. Only one school updates facilities at fixed time compared with seven schools rarely update, which making up53.8percent of the total and five schools never update, making up38.5percent of the total.8In teachers’ opinion, the main factor to impede progress in selected track and field course in rural high school is the dull teaching contents, students’lack of interest which results in small proportion of registration. Students think that qualified teachers and high level of assessment criteria also accounts.
