With the advancement of modern society and the rapid development of science and technology. Many countries and regions began to reform basic education curriculum. The Chinese mainland in order to conform to the trend of the world curriculum reform and promote development of the continent geography curriculum, in 2003, enacting Common High School Geography Curriculum Standard(Experiment),the presence of four versions of the high school geography textbooks, each version has its unique characteristics. However, in the process of ten years’ usage, there exist some problems, so the high school geography textbook reform is imperative. People who share the same in Taiwan and the mainland, similar culture background, but Taiwan’s economy as a whole is better than the mainland. Therefore, many scholars focus on their look in Taiwan, hoping through a comparative study of geography textbooks and Taiwan high school, learning from the available places for future geography textbook reform and improve the quality of textbook compilation.The dissertation selects the mainland high school geography textbooks, People’s Education Press(Required 2) and Taiwan high school geography textbooks Dragon Edition(Geography 2) as part of the comparison, through the literature method, comparison, statistics, case studies and other methods to compare two versions of preparation of the concept of teaching materials, teaching structure, selection and organization of textbook content, teaching materials imaging systems. Each section describes the characteristics of two editions of textbooks, and then analyzes the similarities and differences between two versions of textbooks, draw conclusions and inspiration. Finally, a comparative analysis based on two versions of textbooks on the mainland PEP high school geography textbooks(Required 2) made some suggestions:1. add annotation supplementary reading functions.2. add the original sources of teaching material, such as picture, photo, and website.3.strengthen the format design of teaching material reform.4.enrich the content of the knowledge, increase the other contents of the third industry and some related content about the fourth industry5.Deepen and detailed knowledge.6.Increase current geography in weight in the textbook, carry out learning useful geography for life.7. Rich image system, increase the number of diagram figure, landscape, strengthen the overlap of map and landscape diagram, schematic diagram, strengthen the connection between the graphic.8. Improve the quality of teaching material of paper and printing process, improve the quality of reading experience.
