Reading has an extremely important role in shaping the growth and development of the individual, and it is the key period to develop good reading habits of primary school. Extracurricular reading as a useful complement of curricular reading, that is one of the main part of languages course and an important section of family education. The impact of family factors on pupils extracurricular reading, has a subtle effect. Good family factors not only provide a source of adequate material security, but also is the motivation of spirit for pupils.There is an obvious difference between individual family factors in modern society, so that pupils extracurricular reading has a difference. Currently, the research on pupils extracurricular reading are more focused on the status of the investigation, theoretical and practical studies, which compared with the lack of research on the impact of family factors. This inspired us to explore the impact of family factors of extracurricular reading, starting from the family further factors targeted to find and solve problems.Selecting grade five and six students from different level schools somewhere in North China for the survey, I start a study of family factors on their extracurricular reading situation, which has a typical and representative of significance. The thesis is divided into four parts:The first part is an introduction, including an overview of the background, study purpose and value, current research, core definition, study design and other research on this topic systematically introduction; The second part is the current situation of students extracurricular reading, not only summarizing the positive aspects but also pointing out the problem; The third part is the main part of this paper, mainly from the family background, family atmosphere, and family collection, systematically discussing family factors affecting pupils extracurricular reading; The four part is the countermeasures and suggestions, which are corresponding to the study.After systematic analysis of the survey results, there are the following conclusions:First, the status of pupils extracurricular reading is positive also has the problem. Second, family background, including parental occupation, parental education and family income, significantly affect pupils’extracurricular reading.where mother occupation has greater influence,parents education provide pupils extracurricular reading for material security, and family income provide moral support. Third, the family atmosphere is the most direct factors of pupils extracurricular reading, and most parents support the extracurricular reading with less parent-child reading. Fourth, the family collection was positively correlated with the amount of pupils extracurricular reading, and the type of collection also related to the type of pupils extracurricular reading. Next then the countermeasures and recommendations:First, pay attention to family factors, improving family background, creating a good family atmosphere for reading and a wealth resources for reading; Second, other factors can’t be ignored, taking the school as a guide and the government as a support.
