How to promote a renewed Geography teaching quality assessment, in accordance with the concepts of curriculum reform, becomes very urgent.I. Introduction: This paper analyzes the importance of establishing a development-of -a-whole-person-based student evaluation method and illustrates its basic features.II. Theories & methodologies: With an attempt to construct a developmental assessment platform, this study integrates theoretical, behavioral experimental methodologies to influence the development of students and improvement of curriculum design in Geography education from both theoretical and practical aspects.III. Construction of the System: we construct a new evaluation platform based on multiple intelligence theory and education assessment research findings. With an extensive review of traditional student evaluation of Geographic courses, we develop an evaluation system in responding to the new Geographic curriculum standards for junior high school and students' cognitive regularity. This system combines organically knowledge and ability, process and method, emotion, attitude and personal outlook, forming an assessment targets system.IV. Practice: In the framework of this system, We study and test a series of grading methods including Portfolio, Performance, Assessment, Activity Approach, Self-assessment and Testing are involved in assessment. In this experiment, students' acquisition curve in learning Geography is shown clearly because of the implementation of the open learning assessment using learning logs and portfolio; meanwhile Students' developmental assessment report shows their achievements, potentials and defects in Geography learning to both students and parents in order to help students to make plans to accelerate their development.V. Conclusion: By constructing a series of highly operational student evaluation methods, this paper endeavors to apply the developmentalassessment theory into Geographic education with an attempt to reform original assessment methods and therefore to help students develop ail-roundly.Evidence shows that to implement developmental assessment in Geography education is an effective way to move the curriculum reform. This paper is expected to shed light on the new curriculum reform pursued by those who are working on the frontier of the reform.
