The picture system and text system are two major systems in a textbook. They are closely related and supplement each other, covering the whole textbook and constructing a comprehensive textbook system. The picture system, which can be put af the beginning of, or at the end of, or in a certain text, is a concrete illustration of biological knowledge. It is not only a section to demonstrate the teaching contents and ideas, but an important media for passing on the teaching information as well. The picture system is both the indispensable section in a textbook and the audio-visual aids for the teacher, the perceptual studying materials for the students.It plays an important part in increasing the perceptibility, the interest, the art of a text, and in developing students' observation and intelligence. After carefully analyzing the construction, function, classification of the picture system of the textbooks, the author emphatically analyzes the picture system of the biology textbook for senior middle school and other editions, by which, the author aims at finding out the developing tracks of biology textbook in our country, with the expectation to provide the useful reference to further textbook development.
